Robotic Pool Cleaning

Let the robot handle more of the repetitive cleaning — on a schedule, without you dragging a hose around the deck.

Short answer

A robotic pool cleaner is an independent, electrically driven unit with its own filtration and drive system. It does not rely on your pump or filter, which is why it cleans effectively without loading your circulation system. Depending on the model it handles floors, climbs walls, cleans the waterline, maps the pool and runs on a schedule you set from an app.

It removes a large repetitive task. It does not replace chemistry, filter maintenance, basket cleaning, equipment inspection or all brushing and detail work.

What a robot does and does not do

A robot handles

  • Floor cleaning, consistently and on schedule
  • Wall climbing on capable models
  • Waterline cleaning on capable models
  • Mapped, systematic coverage rather than random paths
  • Repeated cycles without anyone being home
  • Fine debris its own filter captures, without loading your filter

A robot does not handle

  • Water chemistry of any kind
  • Filter cleaning or backwashing
  • Skimmer and pump basket emptying
  • Equipment inspection and diagnostics
  • All brushing and detail work, especially steps and tight corners
  • Heavy storm debris loads without help

Questions

Robotic cleaning FAQ

No. It removes the vacuuming, which is a large part of the repetitive labour, but chemistry, filter maintenance, baskets, equipment inspection and detail brushing remain.

For service customers the practical benefit is that the pool stays cleaner between visits and the technician spends their time on higher-value maintenance instead of pushing a vacuum.

Most pools do well with several cycles per week rather than daily. Heavy tree cover, storm season or a pool in constant use will justify more. Scheduling it means the decision is made once instead of every week.

Compared to running your main pump for extended periods to drive a suction or pressure cleaner, generally yes, because the robot uses its own small motor rather than your circulation system.

If you currently vacuum by hand, the time saved usually justifies it quickly. If you already pay for service, the value is in what your pool looks like on the days nobody visits.

If your pool sits under heavy trees, a robot helps but does not eliminate skimming during leaf drop.

AquaLit's recommendation

For most Houston-area pools, a robotic cleaner is the second upgrade we recommend after circulation. It removes the single most repetitive job, it does not load your filtration, and it is the change families notice fastest.

If your pool sits under heavy trees, buy for debris capacity rather than for app features. If it is open and clean, a mid-range unit on a schedule is usually enough.

  • Choose wall and waterline capability if your tile line stains
  • Buy for debris volume if you have mature trees
  • Set a schedule and leave it — the value is in not deciding weekly
  • It still will not clean the filter or empty the baskets
