Smart Pool Lighting

Making your backyard lit — colour, scenes and schedules you control from your phone, on new fixtures or on the ones you already have.

Short answer

In many cases yes — existing pool lights can be made smarter. If you have older incandescent fixtures, a colour LED retrofit usually gets you app control, colour and scenes. If you already have LED fixtures, the upgrade is often at the control layer rather than the light itself: adding a controller or relay that puts the lights on a schedule and into scenes with the rest of the backyard.

Lighting is also where specialty work pays off. Beyond the pool itself, bubbler lighting, step and bench accents, water-feature lighting and landscape lighting are what actually make a backyard look designed after dark.

Pool and spa lighting

Colour LED fixtures with app control, scheduling and scene support. We handle retrofit into existing niches as well as new fixture installation during renovation work.

  • Colour LED retrofit for existing niches
  • Spa and bench lighting
  • Bubbler and tanning-ledge accents
  • Scheduling so lights come on at dusk without anyone deciding
  • Scene support when tied to central automation
Water feature and landscape lighting

Water feature and landscape lighting

The pool is rarely the only thing worth lighting. Coordinated landscape and feature lighting is what turns a lit pool into a backyard that looks intentional.

  • Waterfall and spillover lighting
  • Deck jet and fountain lighting
  • Landscape and path lighting where appropriate
  • Zone control so areas can be lit independently
Questions

Lighting FAQ

Often, yes. Older incandescent fixtures can usually be retrofitted with colour LED units that support app control and scenes. Existing LED fixtures may only need a controller or relay added to bring them into a schedule or scene.

What determines the work is the niche, the conduit run and the existing wiring — which is what we check during the assessment.

Not for basic app control and schedules — many lights handle that themselves. You need a controller when you want lighting to participate in scenes alongside valves, heating and water features, so one button changes the whole backyard.

Yes, either through the light manufacturer's own app or through a central automation app that controls the lights along with everything else. Where possible we prefer to consolidate control so you are not juggling four apps for one backyard.

Where lighting pays off

Worth doing if

  • You use the backyard in the evening, which in Texas is most of the year
  • You still have old incandescent fixtures
  • You entertain and want the yard to look designed after dark
  • There are water features or a spa that are invisible at night
  • You want lights on a schedule rather than a switch nobody remembers

Lower priority if

  • Your LED fixtures are recent and already app-controlled
  • The pool is rarely used after sunset
  • Niche or conduit condition would turn a retrofit into a rebuild
  • Equipment on the pad needs the budget more
AquaLit's recommendation

Lighting is the upgrade with the widest gap between cost and perceived value — it is comparatively inexpensive and it changes how the backyard feels every single evening.

Where we would push back: replacing perfectly good colour LEDs just to change app. If your fixtures are fine, the money is better spent at the control layer so lighting joins your scenes.

  • Old incandescent niches — retrofit to colour LED
  • Existing LEDs — add control rather than new fixtures
  • Light the features, not just the pool
  • Put it on a schedule so it happens without anyone deciding
