Pool Automation in Sugar Land, TX

Sugar Land has some of the best-established pools in the Houston area — and many of them are running automation controllers that are twenty years old. That is the conversation here.

Short answer

AquaLit provides pool automation, controller replacement and upgrades, smart pump installation, chemistry automation, lighting and repairs throughout Sugar Land, TX — First Colony, Sweetwater, Greatwood, New Territory, Telfair, Avalon, Sugar Creek, Commonwealth, Riverstone on the Sugar Land side and the streets around Town Square. Most existing Sugar Land pools can be brought up to date without rebuilding.

On a pad with an older controller the first question is whether to upgrade it or work around it. Where the pump is the priority, the Moov AI 2.0 HP inverter pump is installed under standard conditions.

What is different about a Sugar Land pool

Established pools, ageing controllers

Sugar Land's master-planned communities were built out from the 1970s through the 2000s, and a great many pools here were installed with the house or added soon after. Many were automated at the time — Sweetwater, First Colony and Greatwood have more first-generation controllers than anywhere else we work. Those systems are now reaching the end of their lives: relays sticking, displays fading, and parts becoming hard to find. Whether to replace the controller or work around it is usually the first decision.

Pool-and-spa combinations, water features, multiple zones

Larger lots and larger pools mean spas, waterfalls, sheer descents, bubblers and several lighting circuits. This is the environment where a modern central controller — Pentair IntelliCenter, Jandy AquaLink or an open platform — genuinely earns its cost, because there is a lot to coordinate and the owner is currently doing it by hand.

Mixed-brand pads are the norm

Twenty years of repairs and replacements leave a pad with a Pentair pump, a Jandy heater, a Hayward salt cell and lights from someone else entirely. Integrating that properly, rather than switching it all through relays, is a specialism — and it is most of what we do in Sugar Land.

Mature oaks and the debris that goes with them

The trees that make these neighbourhoods what they are drop leaves, pollen and catkins through late winter and spring, and load skimmers all year. Robotic cleaning is close to essential on a shaded Sugar Land pool.

The pad itself

Older pads mean older PVC, older electrical and sometimes undersized conduit. We look at all of it before recommending a controller, because the controller is only as good as what it is wired to.

Community standards

Sugar Land's associations tend to be particular about equipment visibility and noise. A modern inverter pump at low speed is close to silent; a heat/chill pump has a footprint and a fan. We factor both into where things go.

The controller question

Replace the controller, or work around it?

Replace it if

  • Parts are no longer available and it has already failed once
  • You want app control and the system cannot do it
  • You are adding equipment it cannot integrate — a modern pump, chemistry, colour lighting
  • Relays or actuators are sticking and the spa takes manual intervention
  • You are renovating the pool and the pad is open anyway

Work around it, for now, if

  • It still runs the spa and lights reliably and you mostly want a better pump
  • Budget this year is for circulation, and the controller can follow
  • The pad's plumbing or electrical needs work before a new controller is worth wiring in
  • You are selling within the year

Who benefits most in Sugar Land

Worth a call if

  • Your controller is original to the pool and showing its age
  • There is a spa, water features or several lighting circuits
  • The pad has equipment from three different manufacturers
  • Mature oaks keep the skimmer and filter loaded
  • You want app control of a system that predates apps
  • You are resurfacing or renovating — the moment to re-plumb properly

Fix something else first if

  • The plumbing at the pad is brittle or leaking
  • Electrical capacity or conduit is the real constraint
  • A heater or filter is failing and needs replacing anyway
  • You are selling within the year
Questions

Sugar Land pool automation FAQ

Sometimes. Some older Pentair and Jandy systems have upgrade paths that keep the wiring and actuators and replace the brain. Others do not, and the honest route is a new controller. We look at what you have and tell you which it is — and what each route costs before you decide.

Properly integrated, in part; switched through relays, almost all of it. Equipment with a data connection integrates fully; equipment without one can be switched on and off but not spoken to. We map your pad and show you exactly which is which before quoting.

Yes, along with Avalon, Sugar Creek, Commonwealth, Sugar Lakes, Riverstone on the Sugar Land side and the streets around Town Square. Sugar Land is the eastern end of our regular routes.

It can be, if convenience is what you are buying. Fill water across Sugar Land varies by district, and hard water shortens salt cell life and encourages scaling on water features. If lowest lifetime cost is the goal, automated liquid chlorine dosing is often the better recommendation. We test your water before advising.

AquaLit's recommendation

For a typical Sugar Land pool — established, pool and spa, mixed-brand pad, ageing controller — start by mapping what you have. Then decide the controller question, upgrade circulation and add robotic cleaning if you are under oaks. Do it in that order and nothing gets paid for twice.

Call or text 832-299-5570 and you reach the people who will be standing at your equipment pad.

  • Map the pad before choosing a controller
  • Replace or work around the controller — decide, then act
  • Circulation upgrade behind correct plumbing
  • Robotic cleaning under mature oaks
